#34: Groundhog Day
Set Piece: Cherry Tree Inn
Location: Woodstock, Illinois
Production Budget: $14.6 million*
Groundhog Day, the hilarious 1993 flick with Bill Murray, had some scenes shot in Woodstock, Illinois. The quaint Victorian B&B featured in the movie is actually a real spot called the Cherry Tree Inn, once known as “The Royal Victorian Manor.” It changed hands for $695,000 in 2017, and the film inspired its name since it’s where Murray’s character stayed.

The real Groundhog Day Festival happens in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, a hefty 500 miles away. Groundhog Day was a smash hit despite the distance, raking in nearly $71 million worldwide. Who knew a day repeating over and over could be so lucrative?
