#16: Dalmatian
The Dalmatian’s history spans centuries, with roots likely in Croatia’s Dalmatia region. Known for guarding horse-drawn carriages and serving alongside firefighters, their distinctive spotted coat has made them one of the most recognizable dog breeds. Intelligent and active, they thrive with engaged, experienced owners.

Dalmatians are alert and protective but can also be stubborn and reserved with strangers. Without proper training and stimulation, they may become territorial or reactive. These tendencies, along with their agility and speed, have led some to include them on restricted breed lists.
