#12: American Bulldog
The American Bulldog descends from working Bulldogs brought to the southern United States by English immigrants. Bred for farm work, including guarding property and catching livestock, they are muscular, athletic, and agile. Their loyalty and determination made them a valuable asset to rural families and farmers for generations.

American Bulldogs are energetic, determined, and require structured training. If they aren’t trained to respect boundaries, they can be territorial or aggressive toward strangers and other animals. Their strength and tenacity make them a challenge for inexperienced owners, placing them on many restricted lists.
