Angie Dickinson was already well known by the time the 1970s began, but the decade made her a television superstar. She starred in Police Woman (1974–78) as Sergeant Pepper Anderson, one of the first strong female leads in a crime drama. She combined toughness with charm, and audiences loved it.

Her glamorous looks and confident attitude made her a sex symbol who stood apart from younger ingénues. Angie showed that a woman could be stylish, smart, and in control. She became a role model for many and one of the most talked-about stars on television during the 70s.
