#26: President Ulysses S. Grant’s Pets Cincinnati and Faithful
Ulysses S. Grant, famed Civil War general, cherished his horses above all. His favorite, Cincinnati, was considered one of the finest thoroughbreds of the era, gifted to him during the war. Cincinnati carried Grant in parades and was admired for his strength. Grant also kept a Newfoundland dog named Faithful.

These animals reflected Grant’s steady, loyal character. Cincinnati became almost legendary, allowed to graze freely on the White House lawn. Faithful added companionship for Grant’s children, showing that even amid the solemnity of Reconstruction, the White House could still be a place of warmth, loyalty, and quiet moments with beloved pets.
