#15: President Herbert Hoover’s Pets King Tut and Pat
Herbert Hoover entered the White House with King Tut, a Belgian Malinois, who was both companion and watchdog. King Tut often patrolled the White House grounds, admired for his loyalty and protective nature. Hoover also had several other dogs, including Pat, a fox terrier, adding playful energy to the household.

These animals softened Hoover’s otherwise reserved image. During the Great Depression, stories and photos of his pets gave the public small glimpses of warmth. King Tut in particular became an emblem of devotion, showing that even during one of America’s hardest economic times, a president found comfort in faithful dogs.
