#15: Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 (1972)
Flying into Miami at night, the crew became distracted by a faulty landing gear light. Unnoticed, the autopilot switched off, and the plane slowly lost altitude. The Lockheed L-1011 drifted into the Florida Everglades and crashed. Of the 176 people onboard, 101 were killed in the eerie swamp crash.

The disaster became infamous not only for its cause — crew distraction — but also for ghost stories. Survivors and airline staff later reported sightings of the dead crew, leading to books and legends. Beyond the folklore, the crash highlighted the dangers of losing focus during routine cockpit problems.
