#11: Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 (2014)
Flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, the Boeing 777 was cruising at 33,000 feet over eastern Ukraine when it was struck by a surface-to-air missile. The aircraft broke apart in the sky and crashed into farmland below. All 298 people onboard were killed instantly in the attack.

The tragedy drew worldwide outrage. Investigators traced the missile to pro-Russian separatists, sparking international condemnation and sanctions. For airlines, MH17 highlighted the risks of flying over conflict zones, leading many carriers to change routes. For the victims’ families, it was a senseless act of war against innocent civilians.
