#9: Sure, Those Are Christmas “Candles”
The 1950s were a wild time in American cuisine. Jell-o molds, casseroles, and other monstrosities were the norm. One woman decided to try out one of those weird 1950s recipes for herself and present it to her family on Christmas day. She found a recipe for Christmas “candles” made out of bananas, and this was the result.
This isn’t a joke. She followed that vintage recipe to a tee, mayonnaise and all. Yes, that is mayo dripping down the sides of each halved banana. Why? We have no idea. As we said, the 1950s were wild. The shape of these “candles” is truly unexplainable. Who the heck wrote this and decided to include it in a cookbook all those decades ago? They had to have been playing a joke on suburban families everywhere, right?
