The 27 Club
Janis Joplin, the soulful rock queen, was among the pioneering members of the infamous 27 Club – a cadre of gifted artists, predominantly musicians, who met their untimely demise at the tender age of 27. The psychedelic rock legend, Jimi Hendrix, had succumbed to a fatal drug overdose only weeks prior to Joplin’s death. Tragically, less than a year later, the charismatic Doors’ frontman, Jim Morrison, joined this macabre club, also falling victim to narcotics.

Like a haunting melody, the ’27 Club’ echoes through the annals of rock history. The Lizard King, Jim Morrison, drew his last breath precisely two years after Rolling Stones’ Brian Jones, both aged 27. Tragically, Morrison’s lover, Pamela Courson, joined this somber club three years later. This eerie fraternity continues to grow, with talents like Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse adding their names to the roster, leaving a permanent note of sorrow in the music world.
