Putting the Fun in Funeral
Joplin, a woman of unique taste, specifically outlined in her will that she didn’t want a traditional, gloomy funeral. Instead, she bequeathed $2,500 to her loved ones, instructing them to throw a rip-roaring wake at The Lion’s Share, a popular pub in San Anselmo, California. On October 26th, 1970, the bar was filled with revelers who raised their glasses high, getting as intoxicated as possible, in a fitting tribute to their cherished friend.
In stark contrast to her vibrant life, her farewell was a quiet, intimate affair. Only three souls bore witness to it – her creators, her parents, and her beloved aunt. Their heavy hearts were the only sound as her ashes danced with the wind, merging with the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. The chosen spot was the picturesque Stinson Beach, nestled in the heart of Marin County, California. A serene ending to a beautiful journey.
