Bad News
The grapevine was abuzz with whispers of Janis and Seth’s impending nuptials. But the universe had a cruel twist in store. On that fateful Saturday, Janis received a jarring phone call. Seth, her betrothed, had been spotted in a Marin County eatery, charming a bevy of beauties and inviting them to an after-party at her abode. The blow must have shattered her heart into a million pieces.

As the sun set, Janis Joplin and Full Tilt Boogie Band’s keyboardist, Ken Pearson, left Sunset Sound Recorders. They, along with a fan, piled into her Porsche, setting off for Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood. Joplin sipped two vodka and oranges, her worries surfacing. She feared the band would stop making music with her. As they arrived at the Landmark Motel, Pearson became the last person, aside from a night shift desk clerk, to see Joplin alive.
