It’s a Dance-Off
Another unique tradition occurs every day at the Wagah Border between Amritsar in India and Lahore in Pakistan. Thousands of Indians, Pakistanis, and tourists come to watch soldiers of the neighboring nations dance it out. In a thrilling display of one-upmanship, the soldiers attempt to outperform each other in marching drills and some seriously high kicks!

Every day, thousands of people come to see the fabulous display. The flags are simultaneously lowered while the soldiers perform exaggerated drills in front of each other. The ceremonial dance is called the “Beating Retreat.” It represents the harmony of both cultures coming together. The dance has been performed every day at dusk since 1959.
